Who need any stinkin' tariffs?!

Tariff-Me-Not

We received this notice from one of our lower-cost cabinet suppliers. This price increase is devastating to us as a dealer, and hope this doesn’t stay in place for long. We also want to remind you that we offer other cabinet lines as well. These other lines are custom-made in the USA, and are not currently being affected by this tariff issue. We appreciate your understanding, and hope to continue to breathe new life into your home remodeling projects.
“On September 17, 2018, the United States President signed $200 Billion in new tariffs. These “301” tariffs impact a broad range of products including furniture, vanities, and kitchen cabinets. These tariffs are effective with 7-day notice to the business community. In short, a 12% tariff will be applied to all cabinetry, vanities, and furniture (among many, many other products) effective September 24, 2018. Further, these tariffs are planned to increase to 25% effective January 1, 2019. These costs are too great to absorb.
JSI believes the duration of these tariffs is unclear and the probability they increase to 25% in January is unclear. The reality for JSI and its customers in the cabinetry industry:
1.JSI product cost increases 12% due to tariffs on Monday, September 24th.
2.“Domestic” and “Imported” cabinet manufacturers rely significantly on material and labor from China.
3.2017 Tariffs on Chinese Manufactured plywood drove 2018 price increases from U.S. Domestic cabinet producers (many or most “Domestics” buy plywood, doors, frames, glides, and/or components from China).
4.Tariffs are a tax on the consumer and we expect price increases from “domestic” and “import” cabinet suppliers in 2018 and 2019. We expect accelerated price inflation.”
