Do your research and ask the tough questions. Make sure the next company you hire has the proper licensing for the job. Often unlicensed contractors do not want to pull required permits – in order to keep county officials from inspecting their work, or letting them know the work they are illegally performing. You want make sure every work that is done around your home is done right and you won’t run into any problems later on.

Getting the work done right is one reason to hire a licensed contractor, but there are lots of consequences for using an illegal Handyman or company that doesn’t have the right license. If proper permits are not pulled, you might have to tear down the work, and pay for it twice (plus fines). If the person or company performing the work is not properly licensed, and you need to make an insurance claim because of their faulty work, your homeowners insurance might NOT cover your claim. Also, if they fall and get hurt, they can sue you the homeowner if they don’t have workers compensation.
